Coaches Gifts!

This week has been busy working on small, complicated quilts.  My friend and her son asked me to make some custom gifts for his the schools cross country team coaches.  After working with her over several days, I was able to design the gifts with school logos, running quotes, photos and other things related to cross country.

The quilts were made with Moda Marbles fabric using school colors and measured 24" x 24" finished.

It took me and my husband most of Saturday morning to make design everything in the embroidery software on the quilts.  Then on Sunday I started sewing all the embroidery designs out, and took me 3 full days to embroidery everything out for all three quilts.

My husband cleaned up the photos for me.  So all I had to do was print all the pictures out on fabric paper.

By Wednesday, afternoon I had all the borders on all 3, and was loading them on the longarm for quilting.

The quilting was just a basic stitch in the ditch work.  Which was done yesterday.  I added the binding and now I just need to finish sewing the other 2 quilts binding to the back and they will be complete.

Well, the other two will have to wait until I return from Thanksgiving.  When I get back, I will have a few T-shirts quilts to make for a customer.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and is safe.

Bike Memory Quilt Finished!

Today, I finished a special project that I have been wanting to do for awhile.  I have had a pile of Mountain Biking T-shirts in a box that my son left me before he left for his duty station this summer.  He asked me to make him a wall size T-shirt Quilt for him.

So after looking through several layouts, I designed a layout in EQ7.    I came out with this design.

This design cuts the shirts down to 14 1/2" with 2" sashing in between each of the blocks.  The bottom right side has 4 blocks sewn together to make the big block.  I really didn't have 9 shirts, so I had to figure out something for there, so I found a picture of my son and his bike team and printed it on fabric paper, and added borders around it.

The top measure as 61" x 61", I have found a nice red/black marble fabric for the backing, just need to prepare it and quilt this one.

This Memory T-shirt quilt top turned out nice for him.  I cant wait for him to see this.

2013 Quilters Quest Day 2!

Day 2 of the 2013 Quilters Quest Shop was just as fun as Day 1.  The day started an hour earlier than yesterday.  Which meant I got to sleep in a little this morning, YEAH!

The first stop for us all was in Annapolis, Maryland at Cottonseed Glory.  I have been there before and really like the shop.  Great Selection of patterns, and Kits.  Huge Collection of fabric in a small shop.

The bus then continued to Townson, Maryland to the Bears Paw Quilting were we greeted by the owner with a big welcome.  The store was clean and with lots of space to move around.  Lots of fabrics to choose from.  As we settled back on the bus, the own came out and thanked us for coming.

The next stop, the Seminole Sampler, which was a nice shop with a small selection to choose from, so we were not there that long.

The final stop was in Gathersburg, Maryland at Capital Quilts.  The shop has expanded since I was there last.  They have a whole new section, which means a whole extra room of great fabrics.  I love it this was my favorite store of the day that we had to travel long distance for.

We finished  the quest back at Material Girls, were we received our Quest Tote, and Pizza dinner.

The last couple days was great fun!  I met new quilters that became friends.  I really hoping that Material Girls will be doing this again next year.

2013 Quilters Quest Day 1

Today, was a day of traveling all over Virginia and Maryland.  The travels were all well worth it, as we were traveling to 5 different Quilt Shops.  Today, I was joining 35 other ladies on the 2013 Quilters Quest.Shop Hop.  The bus I was on started at Material Girls at 7am.  We had a great tour guide, Mike.

The first stop was Patches Quilting in Mt. Airy, Maryland.  This shop was really nice inside.  Lots of fabrics to choose from.  The help was very friendly and helpful.

The next stop was on to Hagerstown, Maryland for Traditions of White Swan Quilt Shop.  I have seen this shop as a vendor at several different Quilt Shows.  They have a great collection of fabrics and tables of fat quarters.

As we traveled to the next shop we were handed our lunches that were provided by Apple Spice Junction.  The Turkey sandwich I had was great, and very fresh.

The next stop was The Scrappy Apple Quilts & more in Winchester, Virginia.  I atmosphere of this shop.  Everyone was helpful and willing to go the extra step to work with you.    The variety of patterns and fabrics was great.

Kelly Ann's Quilting, in Warrenton, Virginia was the next stop.  As we approached the door of the shop we were greeted by these three Minions, what a great greeting.  The store was nice and the people were really nice.

The final stop, of the day was in Great Fall, Virginia at Jinny Beyer Studios.  It was nice to meet and talk to her personally.  Her shop is really nice and full of nice fabrics.  Lots of fat quarters and kits.

Then we were off back to Material Girls.  Tomorrow morning we are off for 5 more shops to finish up the Shop hop.  What a great day of fabric shopping.

2013 Designer Mystery Month 5!

Today, I finished the last of my Designer Mystery Blocks of Month with Month 5.  So, I'm finally caught up, just have to wait for the next one to come.

Month 5 Block is called " Stargazing"!  When you look at the block it looks complicated but really it is a nice easy block to assemble.  It all starts with theses pieces.

Then make several different flying geese. Some all small and the others look like one below.

Then you have fun assembling the whole block which will look like this when finished.

All them together!

Cardinal in Pines Finally Quilted!

Today, I spent most of the day quilting on the Cardinal in Pine Quilt Top.  I needed to get this one done, due to I will be personally delivering this to my friend in a couple weeks in Minnesota.

I choice for Pantograph Holly Berries from Digi-Tech, with black thread. The batting was Quilters Dream Black Request Poly. It makes the quilt soft.

I have completed the labels and the front binding is sewn on, so I have the next couple to hand sew the binding on the back.  Hope to get a little sewing tomorrow after my errands.

2013 Designer Mystery BOM #4

Well It's Monday and I have knocked out another Block of the Month that I was behind on today.  I have decided on every Monday, I complete one block until I am completely caught on all my Block of the Month.  And it is working, I have one more of the Designer Mysteries to complete until the next on arrives, then I will start working on my Women of Courage blocks again.

Today's block was #4 "Radiance".  Which starts with these basic squares, then the bigger squares are then cut diagonally.

After they are cut and sewed up into 4 1/2" blocks they layout this way, to make a nice look.

When all the sewing is done the block looks like this.

After I completed this block, made a binding for the Cardinal in Pines, quilt which is finally was put on the longarm today, so I can quilt tomorrow.
