2013 Designer Mystery Block #3

Well we are once again back on the East Coast after a nice relaxing vacation in Northern Idaho.  It was great to catch up with family and friends.

Yesterday, was a day of catch up in the studio. Starting with a cleaning of studio,  putting away fabrics and threads. As I was cleaning, I made a list of Projects and Quilts to be finished or to be done and it was a full list.

After doing all that I worked on one of my 2013 Designer Mystery BOM.  Block Three is called  "Wildflower Bouquet".  This block is another baskets type block, which has  starts with these pieces which are a beautiful assortment of colors.

Then the fun part is laying out the pieces after all the pre-assembling is finished.  You can now start to see how the block will look.

After all the pieces are sewn together the block looks like this.

Now I have 3 Block now finished, and 2 more to make to catch up on the this series.

Now back to the studio, to figure out what will be on my project will be to mark off my projects list.

Busy and now on Vacation

For the last week and half I have been very busy.  I was working on my pattern designs and getting closer on getting another pattern finished.  Then at the end of last week, my husband and I flew out to Northern Idaho for a week to visit my folks and to visit with old high school friends.

On Friday, we also attended the Washington State Quilters Quilt Show in Spokane.  Beautiful Quilts on display all over the fairgrounds.  Lots of vendors, with various of patterns and fabrics, which you don't see on the east coast. We spent hours there just walking and getting lots new of ideas.

On Saturday, My mom and I went into Coeur D' Alene, Idaho to look for a backing for a Quilt top she just finished and I'm taking home with me to finish on my Long Arm for her.  We went to Hancock and Jo-Ann Fabrics and really didn't find anything that was close to what she wanted. So we went to a very nice quilting store called "Bear Paw Quilting and Bernina"  The inside of the store looks like we are walking into a log cabin home.  They have lots of Batiks and the latest fabrics.  They also carry a lot of Bernina Sewing Machines.  In the back of the store they have a huge classroom.  The store is well organized, clean and with nice people to help you. It was in this store that my mom found just the right fabric for the backing.

The weather here in Northern Idaho, has been beautiful, with nice crisp foggy cold mornings, which makes for a comfortable run in comparison to the heat and humidity of Maryland.  The afternoons have been bright and sunny and very nice to get out and about. I love it here, and really hope we can move back to my hometown in the next couple years.

Well back to my vacation, be back into my sewing or quilting room next week!

Summer Solitude Quilted!

I finished quilting the Summer Solitude.

I used Indian Summer Pantograph, with a Brown Superior Thread #50.

The batting I used was the Quilters Dream Black Poly.  I sews up so nicely and so soft.

This quilt turned out very nicely and the binding process has started.

Busy Weekend and another Quilt Top Finished!

This weekend was full of making bindings, labels, preparing quilt backs, and finishing Quilt tops.  On Friday, I spent the day make 4 bindings and labels for quilts that need to be quilted or already done, just need to sew them on them now.

On Saturday, I finished the last 4 block for the Cardinal in the Pines Quilt Top and finished the main part of the top.  I also added the first of borders to the top.

On Sunday, I prepared Outer border fabric for the quilt top by cutting the fabric down into 4 strips.

I mitered all the border corners so the fabric flows all around the Quilt top like a frame.

I also prepared the backing for this quilt top, and I'm working on the backing for the Summer Solitude today.  I will be making the binding and label for this one also today, while I wait for the black batting to arrive today.  Then I will be quilting away!

Tulip Practice Off the Longarm!

Yesterday, was a long day of quilting on the longarm, but I finally finished Quilting on the old Pink Tulip Quilt Top I have had done for Years.   It was a great practice quilt for Feather borders, meandering and Echoing around the Appliques.

The Borders came out really nice, I think for the first time of really doing feathers on a actual quilt. Still need a little more practice but I'm getting there.

The echoing around the Tulip Appliques was hard to keep the lines straight.  I need to do more research on how to the echoing correctly.

Now the Meandering in the squares was fun, you just need to concentrate on where you are going and what direction you need to be going.

Now, I just need to prepare the binding and get on the quilt.

Then, I added a  2 1/2" strip of black all the way around.

Lastly, was the 7 1/2"  strips of the Bear Minnesota Fabric, which finished the top off. The final size was 82" x 82"!

Now to get the backing prepared and get it on the longarm for quilting.

New Project Half Way Done!

I have started a new project, and I have it half way done all ready.  Summer Solitude is a kit from Hingeley Road Quilt Shop.  This quilt is made with Batik fabrics, some of the fabrics are a Hingeley Road Exclusive only designs.

This quilt use 4 1/2" and 5" squares through out the whole top.  The 5" squares are then cut diagonally and then made into half squares.

Once all the half squares are they are squared to 4 1/2".  Then they combined with the other 4 1/2" to make 16 Bear Paw blocks, 4 Grey, 4 Brown and 8 Blue.

Sew all the Grey together to make the center of the top.  Then the 4 Brown are then sewn on the outside  of the center Grey blocks.  Then the Blue blocks are sewn into 2 rows and added to the top and bottom of the center blocks.

The middle is now complete, now to add the many borders. Add 4 1/2 borders all the way around the top.

The next border is made of 60 half square blocks with to light and dark color browns then sewn in sets of 14 to make a border.

Tomorrow, I need to finish the other 3 half square borders and add the other 2 borders and this quilt top will be finished.

This is a fast and easy quilt top to make.  Hope to have this one on the longarm by next week.
